In the height of the 1990’s MTV broadcasting channel, which was then followed by crazed torrenting of albums and videos, it seemed as though the notion of ‘old fashioned’ radio playing might become slowly erased from our collective consciousness. But similarly to print and analogue vs. digital, a necessity in the physical, more traditional medium always excels against its futuristic odds. To raise attention to its phenomenal presence in our lives today, the V&A draws together a timeline of radio productions from the British isle. From miti-FM transmitter building workshops, to a selection of small online radio stations that have cropped up over the past years and now hold substantial presence in both the London music and pirate radio scenes, including Peckham based Balamii online broadcasting platform, who have been invited to curate a night filled with their DJ’s and producers.
